The FOCUS-Africa project developed tailored climate services for the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region. Through collaborations between European and SADC organizations, the project advanced the way climate services are created and utilized across various sectors.
Over the course of the project, eight case studies were piloted in five countries, demonstrating the full value chain of climate services. These studies involved a diverse group of stakeholders, including climate scientists, sectoral service providers, and end-users, ensuring effective delivery and use of the services.
The case studies showcased how climate science, forecasts, and projections can maximize socio-economic benefits across Southern Africa, with potential applications throughout the continent. The project focused on four key sectors: agriculture and food security, water, energy, and infrastructure.
The FOCUS-AFRICA Project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 Programme under the Grant Agreement No 869575. The European Commission is not responsible for any use that may be made of the information it contains.
The case studies were the cornerstone of FOCUS-Africa's work, illustrating how the application of new climate forecasts and projections could enhance adaptation, resilience, and socio- economic benefits in Southern Africa, with broader implications for the entire continent. The project identified eight case studies to demonstrate these impacts.
Each case study was conducted using a co-production approach, ensuring the full value chain of climate services was realized. This approach involved:
