A Mechanism for improved coordination on data, methods, tools, products and services for Africa

CONCEPT NOTE
The African Centre for Meteorological Applications and Development (ACMAD) as a WMO Regional Climate Centre (RCC) for Africa is organizing as part of its RCCs coordination function the second Africa Continental Climate Outlook Forum (ACCOF-02). This action is to ensure that there is improved capacity amongst established and upcoming RCCs to regionalize products from WMO designated Global Producing Centres (GPCs) and also provide a platform for technical discussions on drivers of our continental climate, interregional interactions, review the ONDJ 2021/22 seasonal climate across the continent and ultimately produce a continental consensus climate outlook for the March to June (MAMJ) 2022 period.

OBJECTIVES OF THE CCOF-02 MEETING
The ACCOF-02 aims at improving the contribution of RCCs to early warning and disaster preparedness, taking into account information on global climate drivers such as the El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), South West Indian Ocean Dipole (SIOD), North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) amongst others.
The specific objectives of the meeting are to:

  • Review and verify forecasts of the ONDJ 2021/22 climate season
  • Develop continental consensus climate forecast for the MAMJ 2022 season;
  • Discuss drivers of MAMJ 2022 climate across the continent
  • Hold a continental Climate Outlook briefing

PARTICIPANTS FOR THE CCOF-02
Participants for the ACCOF-02 will include climate experts and scientists from the designated and developing Regional Climate Centres (RCCs) and RCC-Networks within the African Continent.

  • AGRHYMET,
